June Anderson

There are those in life who are left alone by circumstance, and then there are those who have chosen the path of solitude. Outwardly they appear to be no different than any other person you might pass on the street, but inside a restless soul lurks seeking so much more than what life has offered. These are perhaps the most dangerous people of all, you can never tell where they are or when their longing will cause them to strike out in the heat of passion…

June tossed and groaned in her sleep, like the prologue to a bad novel the scene kept repeating itself over and over in her dreams. Her hazel eyes fluttered open just as dim light was beginning to peek through the threadbare curtains of the motel room. It wasn’t much but it was off the beaten path and no one would expect her to be in a place like this. That’s how she wanted it, June wasn’t running she was going at a full gallop to keep everything behind her..

Six years had passed since graduation, the night she’d told her parents the news. Instead of college their privileged little girl had chosen a highly rewarding career in ground combat. Daniel and Elisabeth had been horrified at her words, gasping at each word as it seemed to tear directly into their hearts. They told her almost in unison that if she did this she could never come home. That had been exactly what she’d wanted.

June had never looked back. Yet six years later her time was up, June had returned to LA. She’d been very careful not to get herself seen by anyone who might have known her, which explained the shady motel she’d chosen for her accommodations.

Groaning she pushed herself out of the bed. Breakfast then she’d probably wander around for awhile. There wasn’t much left to do with her day. Her life had become so unstructured so very fast, she wasn’t really sure what to do now. She knew she needed a job, but June hadn’t thought to far past that.

Standing up June reached over and grabbed the sweatshirt off the night stand and pulled it over her head as she made her way to the bathroom sink. A little water on her fingers and she’d scrunch her hair up a bit before giving it a quick toss. Good enough to go out and face the day light. June headed out the door, the lock clicking as it fell shut behind her,. She would make her way down the street towards the small diner she’d scoped out the night before…
